While I was visiting Korea, my father’s right arm and leg were numb, so we went to the emergency room. In the emergency room, As we waited during the various tests, my father said to me: “ I can take care of your mother and brother if I stay healthy.” I had a lump in my throat because my mom said something similar words a few days ago. Mom said, “If I live long enough to be healthy, I can take care of your brother.” Ah~ The disabled brother is the reason mom and dad live! Before I left Korea behind and left for America, I said to my parents. “Mom and dad! If you’re having a hard time, don’t hide it, and be sure to call me. I am the daughter of you. No matter how far it is from America if you ever get sick, I’ll go to Korea. Now my kids are grown up a lot and they don’t need help from me.” I cried out loud, leaving my parents behind. Please live a long and healthy life, Mom and Dad!
응급실에서 아버지의 말씀 -내가 사는 이유
내가 한국에 방문하는 동안 아버지께 이런 일이 있었습니다.
친정 아버지의 오른쪽 팔 다리가 감각이 없어서 응급실에 가게 되었습니다. 응급실에서
여러가지 검사를 하는 동안 기다리면서 아버지는 나에게 이런 말씀을 하셨습니다.
“내가 건강하게 오래 살아야 네 엄마와 오빠를 돌보는데……”
갑자기 가슴이 뭉클해졌습니다.
며칠 전 엄마도 그와 비슷한 말씀을 하셨기 때문입니다.
“ 내가 건강하게 오래 살아야 네 오빠를 돌보는데….”
아~ 장애인 오빠가 엄마 아빠의 사는 이유구나!
한국을 뒤로 하고 미국으로 떠나기 전 나는 우리 부모님께 이런 말을 했습니다.
“엄마, 아빠! 힘들면 숨기지 말고 나한테 꼭 연락해. 나 엄마 아빠 딸이잖아. 아무리
미국이어도 아빠 엄마 혹시라도 아프면, 나 한국으로 갈게. 이제 우리 애들 많이 커서 내
도움 안필요해” 부모님을 뒤로 하고 펑펑 울었습니다. 아무쪼록 건강하게 오래 사세요!
